I have a suggestion for the Mozilla Firefox HostIP.info plugin..

How about making a function that verifies the accuracy of current
HostIP.info data.

This "update" function could be envoked every x interval ammount of
time, or simply once when Firefox is started.

update() would:
1) require a set Location (country,state,city), and halt if one isn't present
2) obtain the current external (internet/public) IP address of the local machine
3) check what the current database listing in HostIP.info is for that
address at this time
4) check if the set Location and current database listing are the same...
5) If not, then it will automatically issue a correction query with
the set Location and IP

This is nice because it allows automatic updates for users with
dynamic IPs (like myself). Rather than expecting users to manually
visit http://hostip.info/ to add their own listing, several times, it
will do it automatically for those people who have installed the
Firefox plugin.

Some specific suggestions:

o Make the plugin bring up a dialog when installed, asking for zip
code/location.
o Add a settings dialog box for the extension
(Tools->Extensions->Right-click ->Preferences
o Have a checkbox in the settings dialog along the lines of
"Automatically update HostIP.info database."
o Have the option to choose between "Update when Firefox is started.",
or "Update every x minutes." (allowing the user to set x)

Mmm... What do you think?

Wow - good idea :)

Source code is readily available - have at it ;) (just use the SVN checkout so I can run the patch easily from the diffs)
