Find IP with only an email address.

Postby routilla on Mon Apr 02, 2007 12:14 am

No emails received but need to find general location(state or country if out of US) of an email address. How can I do it without an email header which would have the IP? Thanks.

I don't think you can.
A whois on the domain name may give you some information, eg. if the adressee owns the domain, or it is a domain which is obviously local to a specific area.
Apart from that - I don't think it can be done.

It all depends on whey you mean by location of an email address.

what you can do is look up the mx record for their domain but that will only give the domain name of the servwer that accepts mail for their mailbox. It will not tell you where the mailbox holder resides, or even the name of the server that holds the mailbox

I'd post an example but the BBS rejects it thinking I've posted URLs.

Nope, that's hard thing to do. If it's coming from yaho no chance. Might work for gmail if the sender uses SMTP /POP enabled
cheers
